I love weddings. People say “Don’t you get bored doing the same thing all the time?” But I don’t. Every one is different, every one is really special to the bride and groom who have thought long and hard and planned for months and months about how to throw the best party for their friends, their family and themselves.
This wedding reception was a good example of that. For a start the guests weren’t even told there was a wedding disco. I had to slip myself and my disco equipment silently behind a curtain in a hidden part of the marquee and set everything up quietly. I did a far better job of this than I intended – the groom told me later that he said to his father “Oh no the DJ hasn’t turned up!” Only to be told that I had and was ready to go.
Shh, no one is supposed to know I’m here! |
When the time was right the curtain was to be raised up to reveal the happy couple performing their first dance. Then there was a family dance to play followed by She’s Electric by Oasis because, as the groom rightly told me, “She looks electric today doesn’t she.” After this there was another surprise. Whilst on the hen do the Bride, her bridesmaids and friends had choreographed a dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller and wanted to perform it Flash mob style unannounced.
The Zombies stun the audience |
I was given a playlist of songs that lasted up until 10.30pm and another list of songs to play in the final half hour. All went well and I think a great night was had by everyone. Unique and personal as ever.
