This was the first time I’d DJ’ed The Best Western Webbington Hotel in Somerset and hopefully I’ll return one day. They have a resident DJ who was playing to a wedding reception party the other side of the hotel – I had a good chat with him, it’s rare to meet someone who’s doing the same job as you at the same venue!
The bride and groom had give me a few musical steers for the night but generally it was to be a mix of 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and up-to-date songs with nothing on the ‘don’t play list’. As always with weddings the guests ages ranged from 4 year olds upwards so I was playing Nicki Minaj even before their first dance at 8.30pm!
I played a couple of songs that I’ve never been asked for previously, notably The Wurzels and Nirvana – cue lots of air guitar and jumping around. I was pleased with the amount of dancing I managed to encourage, all on the hottest night of the year so far.
