Don’t worry, that’s normal, especially as hiring a DJ isn’t an everyday activity!

Costs

Do I need to pay a deposit?
Deposits are needed in order to secure the date of your booking. These vary depending on final cost but these are generally 1/3 of the total fee.

When do we pay the final amount?
After the deposit has been paid the remaining amount is normally paid the week before your event or in cash on the night.

What does the price include?
The price includes all of the sound and lighting equipment, fuel, travel time, setting-up/packing-up time and any other costs unless otherwise stated.

Can we extend the hours you play on the night?
If the venue, its staff and their license allows you to do this, then yes. The extra hours need to be agreed and paid for before they commence.

No, we do not currently provide karaoke services.

Do you hire out your equipment?
No, we do not currently hire out our equipment.

How far will you travel?
DJ Hire Bristol provides its services across the South West, so Bristol, Bath, Somerset and Gloucestershire/South Gloucestershire including parts of South Wales, Devon, Wiltshire and Dorset.

Your DJ

What if you’re unable to DJ due to illness?
If this was to happen we have a support network of other DJ’s available. Being a member of the NADJ helps in that we can rely on other suitable DJ’s if and when needed.

How will the DJ be dressed?
Smart for a wedding, corporate event or black tie occasion.

How much does the DJ talk on the microphone?
DJ Chris has never been known for too much chat, making jokes or generally loving the sound of his own voice. Naturally where annoucements, dedications and other interactions are needed that isn’t a problem.

Do you have all the relevant certificates?
Yes. All equipment is PAT tested annually and we have up to £10 million Public Liability Insurance.

Equipment

How long does it take you to set up your equipment?
It can take anything between 45 minutes to an hour depending on access.

What equipment do you use?
For music playback I use a laptop with a back up hard drive and a controller. Active speakers and LED lighting from professional DJ manufacturers.

What if you’re equipment breaks down?
Back up equipment including speakers, lights, bulbs and leads are carried to every event in case anything should happen.

Do you use strobe lighting at your discos?
We do not use a dedicated strobe although some of the lighting can create occasional strobing effects.

Do you use a smoke machine at your discos?
If the venue allows it and it is safe to do so then yes we can.

How much space do you need?
A minimum space 4 metres wide x 2 metres deep is ideally required however we have a range of set-ups to suit everything from a pub to a large hall.

The music

What sort of music do you play?
Anything from the 1940’s up to current chart hits and everything in between.

Do you take requests?
Absolutely, so long as the songs are appropriate for the age group and type of event.

Do you accept playlists?
Yes. Ideally these wouldn’t be more than 20 – 30 ‘special’ songs so that DJ Chris can mix these into the set.

Will you mix the music?
Of course. This keeps the dancing flowing.

How loud do you play the music?
Generally quieter at the start of the evening so that people can talk or if there’s a meal and then the volume will increase as the evening continues and the dancing starts.
